    Life Skills Studio

The Life Skills Studio is derived from Keystone Management's work with people of all ages. These essential skills can be taught on a mix-and-match, by row, column or an individual skill basis or as three distinct themes.

Life Skills Studio equips people with the full range of skills needed for success in the 21st century. Read a Media Release from the office of MP for Manly, James Griffin.

    Experiential Learning

The late and inspirational Sir Ken Robinson said, "Education and training are the keys to a fulfilling future. Turn the key one way and you lock up resources; turn it the other way and you unlock your resourcefulness".

The Life Skills Studio is a series of experiential learning programs delivered across three themes. Each theme is 14-hours that can be scheduled over about 8-weeks or as a 2-day intensive workshop.

The Studio is comprised of nine essential skills that are shown in this matrix: To be entrepreneurial, to know how to analyze problems, and to be creative in devising solutions. To consciously self-manage, to act with resilience, and to understand how to leverage collaboration. To appreciate that being a good listener deepens knowledge, that writing is a powerful tool, and ultimately, that we must all learn the art of persuasion.

Workshop Format - 14-hours of Experiential Learning

Life Skills Studio uses a training model called Experiential Learning that incorporates "reflection" on what has been done. By using a cycle of "doing, reflecting, changing, doing" the skills are consciously applied and students recognize that they are applying one or more of the 9 Life Skills.

Programs can be designed to reflect a specific objective or interest and can be delivered, in a school setting, over about 8-weeks or as a 2-day workshop.

All 14-hours are facilitated experiential learning dealing with real-world issues.

The program is supported by NSW Education and has been highly successful in the early phases of a focus on year 9 and 10 students. The picture to the right is of a cohort of students from St Paul's Catholic College Manly who graduated the Life Skills Studio in June 2021.

Pedagogy of Life Skills Studio - Experiential Learning

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Pedagogy (/ˈpɛdəɡɒdʒi, -ɡoʊdʒi, -ɡɒɡi/), most commonly understood as the approach to teaching, is the theory and practice of learning, and how this process influences, and is influenced by, the social, political and psychological development of learners. Pedagogy, taken as an academic discipline, is the study of how knowledge and skills are imparted in an educational context, and it considers the interactions that take place during learning. Both the theory and practice of pedagogy vary greatly, as they reflect different social, political, and cultural contexts.

Its aims may range from furthering liberal education (the general development of human potential) to the narrower specifics of vocational education (the imparting and acquisition of specific skills). Conventional western pedagogies view the teacher as knowledge holder and student as the recipient of knowledge (described by Paulo Freire as "banking methods"), but theories of pedagogy increasingly identify the student as an agent and the teacher as a facilitator.

The Life Skills Studio programs are all based on Experiential Learning and follow the flow of the diagram shown on the right. The act of Reflection is the process of moving knowledge and skills from the subconscious to the conscious mind.

    Why 9 Cells

In French the word neuf means both nine and new. In German, the words for nine and new are neun and neu, and in Spanish, nueve and nuevo. As you count and reach nine, you know you are about to make a new start. 9 is composed of the all-powerful 3x3. Buddhist tradition holds nine to be the supreme spiritual power, and a celestial number. It is 3x3 being the most auspicious of all the numbers.
